grimmcreeper-021.jpg
Here’s a quick sketch I did a few days ago of one of my characters, the Grimm Creeper. He’s an assassin/hunter who primarily works for Nemcromn the main villain in a comic story I’m working on. He has hyper quick reflexes, agility, is a master of stealth and........Continue reading More »

Iron Man Drawing I did at age 14 in 1989

(originally posted on 08.29.2009 on my blog Comic Book Graphic Design)

Iron-Man-Past-Present-Ralph-Contreras-1989.jpg

In the late 80’s I was reading all the Marvel Comic I could get my hands on, but Iron Man was on the top of my favorites list. I’m a huge science fiction fan and Iron Man was a perfect meld of Sci-Fi and Comics. This drawing was a recreation of the cover of Iron Man 244........Continue reading More »

Vader’s Fist – The 501st Legion – Final Pencil Drawing

(originally posted on 05.21.2009 on my blog Comic Book Graphic Design)

Here it is….my drawing of Vader’s Fist, the 501st Legion. I had stated this drawing this picture a few weeks ago. I took a week off from drawing it and finished it this weekend. I had a lot of fun with this drawing. I usually draw comic book stuff, but I felt like changing it up. I’ve never really drawn a Stormtrooper from Star Wars before, so I decided to draw a bunch. I choose the 501 because they aren’t just any legion of Stromtroopers. They are the Elite in the Empire and Darth Vader’s personal legion........Continue reading More »

Dick Grayson the New Batman – Sketches for Redesign

(originally posted on 06.06.2009 on my blog Comic Book Graphic Design)

With the original Batman’s death in Final Crises there were many theories of who would take on the mantel. With the conclusion of Battle for the Cowl we learn that Dick Grayson officially become the new Batman. Grayson is the original Robin who has been going by the the name of Nightwing for over 20 years now. In the new ongoing comic Batman and Robin “Batman: Reborn” written by Grant Morrison we get to see Grayson as the new Batman with Bruce Wayne’s son Damian as the new Robin.........Continue reading More »

Caught on Video – Drawing Private Andrew Martinez for the Dark New World Zombie Comic Book

(originally posted on 06.17.2009 on my blog Comic Book Graphic Design)

This video shows me drawing a character sketch to one of the new characters in the Dark New World zombie comic book. His name is Private Andrew Martinez. A survivor of the zombie apocalypse. From my understanding the first story arch will be centered around him. Carlos sent me several photos of military uniforms to inspire me. I took those photos and tweaked the regular US desert uniform for this character design.........Continue reading More »

The Movies, Games, and Comics Panel at the Albuquerque Film Festival 2009

(originally posted on 08.08.2009 on my blog Comic Book Graphic Design)

I was very fortunate to be able to attend the “MOVIES, GAMES, AND COMICS PANEL” this weekend at the Albuquerque Film Festival 2009. The speakers on the panel were T.Q. Jefferson: the Marvel Comics Director of Games, the Eisner-nominated Pander Brothers: Jacob and Arnold Pander, and a writer/director from Rogue Taurus Productions. It was a great relaxed panel where they told us about how they work with the story, licensing and marketing of their projects........Continue reading More »

Thor - Digitally Inked in Adobe Illustrator

(originally posted on 04.19.2009 on my blog Comic Book Graphic Design)

I inked this drawing digitally using Adobe Illustrator. I didn’t do it in one sitting. I took my time and did it in small spurts during the week. (Usually watching a Netflix movie on the side). I’ve only just recently started inking my drawings on the computer, which is ironic because being a Graphic Designer for over 10 years you’d think I would have........Continue reading More »

Thor Pencil Drawing

(originally posted on 04.13.2009 on my blog Comic Book Graphic Design)

Here’s a pencil drawing I did of Thor the God of Thunder from Marvel Comics. It’s his new costume he’s been wearing since his return to his own monthly title.  Which by the way is a very excellent read. This drawing started off as me just sketching while watching a movie, but became more detailed.........Continue reading More »
